For those who think I am being harsh to my blue suit counterparts, I've had the honor of working for over two years with Air Force personnel of Green-Flag West at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, CA, and at Nellis AFB, NV. Many of them, after seeing the developing success of the Army's level III UAS., are seeing that it does NOT require a (what we call in the Army) rated aviator to to tell a "robot", because that is what the the UAS is, to fly at a certain altitude, turn at a certain point, descend or climb, or orbit a station. The skill is really in the tactical employment in support of the ground commander. The Green-Flag West (and most likely East) boys understand this after being over NTC a while. But we always had a use for Shows of Force, NTISR if only because we had limited Predator hours form active and CA ANG) and the occasional lethal engagement.

Well, the Air Force can do what it wants, but the Army is operating UAS (yes, Unmanned Aircraft Systems is the official DoD and FAA term that the Air Force will not embrace, preferring to call them Remotely Piloted Vehicles to emphasize the skill, bravery, and dash of Air Force personnel flying MQ-1s and MQ-9s via satellite control from CONUS) having enlisted personnel control them, everything from as small as the Raven to as large as the MQ-1C Gray Eagle (between and Predator and Reaper in size and capability). All the systems are flown literally by automated systems with operators having a level of control over the DECISION making process. Yes, the MQ-1C will have officers and senior enlisted to direct the weapons and sensor employment.

And one more thing. It does not require a JTAC to employ it's hellfires, mainly because it has two FM radios, UHF, and VHF, all relayed by satellite if necessary. I was asked by a Green-Flag West officer at the National Training who gives them authorization to shoot. My reply was who gives authorization for a AH-64 or OH-58D pilot to fire hellfires or gun. Of course, the answer usually the on scene commander if in contact with troops. Now, we will allow a JTAC to employ it for reconnaissance and surveillance and fires, but one does not have to have the accroutrements of a JTAC, UHF radio, and certificate of training from Nellis AFB as a JTAC or JFO.

One more bit of detail, the MQ-1C operators WILL all be in the theater that they are supporting, living from a facility with asphalt or concrete, but in theater always, albeit always not far from the mess facility and Salsa and Country night at the clamshell ('m thinking Bagram Airfield).

With the recent firing of the Command Master Chief for CVN 71. Am curious why are they publicizing his firing? And what of the other Command Master Chiefs that were politely encouraged to retire for alleged worst offensives then what the official press release states for CMC David Stitts?

Command Master Chiefs are selected to be Command Master Chief Program based on demonstrated sustained superior performance, and most notably, a strong endorsement from their commanding officer based on solid recommendations from a current serving Command/ Force Master Chief.

CMC Stitts and other CMC's that have been relieved were endorsed by someone in the CMC community. If someone did the research; they would find commonalities relating to endorsements/ false official statements made to the CMC’s selected and fired? Get rid of the ones that are still serving in the Command Master Chief positions and have failed at funneling out the bad apples in their CPO mess.

How can I get in touch with Health Specialist Johnson, who assisted in mental health evaluations after SSGT Montgomery was in a cave in and said he no longer could fight anymore. He sustained head wounds was withdrawn and his men saw this. Why wasnt a Re- Evaluation done? Why wasnt he flown out after he said" MY Head Does Not Feel Right" I am getting stone walled and so is his family. Johnson asked SSGT Montgomery if he was suicidal, SSGT said no. So that constitutes leaving him with a loaded weapon for 3 days. No Re-evaluation?

My thoughts, A rating of 5 and 4 should be considered go's and 3 and down, no go for promotion for at least 3 years of promotion eligibility. An EPR of 5 or 4 should be treated the same on points. Awards and recognition should be the difference between the true 5's and the 5/4's.

While it is admirable and appreciated that bills are being introduced to ensure that military dependents are also covered up until age 26, by requiring that the child reside with the military member, it will effectively makes it useless for most college students, who are the children most affected by "aging out". Having to pay a premium is reasonable, but please amend this to make it comparable to the private sector.

Admiral O'Hanlon is off base for grounding these two experienced pilots. I was at the game and in the upper west stands. The flyover was picture perfect and neither I nor anyone around me felt any sense of danger. The admiral needs to reconsider his actions. They are too harsh for one infraction of a rule,
